Whimsical Pillowcases Give Kids Emotional Boost
Driving four hours round-trip to deliver pillowcases might seem like too much work for some people, but to Sheila Jasso-Alexander and her granddaughter, it’s just another mission completed. As the Houston/Katy Chapter Coordinator for Ryan’s Case for Smiles, Sheila isn’t just delivering pillowcases; she’s delivering happiness to the pediatric patients at CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth.
Ryan’s Case for Smiles recruits volunteers to hand-make pillowcases for children in the hospital. They started with a simple goal: to create and distribute whimsical pillowcases that give children an emotional boost and remind them that they are not defined by their illness. It is one the few volunteer organizations solely dedicated to helping kids feel better to heal better. While other great organizations focus on research and finding a cure, they work to improve the quality of life of children and their families during their hospital stay. With every stitch, every yard of fabric and every pillowcase they get one step closer to their goal of helping kids in the hospital feel better to heal better.
Thanks to Sheila and her Houston/Katy chapter, these handmade pillowcases will provide the pediatric patients at your local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, CHRISTUS Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth, with a little more joy and will help them feel better to heal better!
